Zayed Sustainability Prize

The Zayed Sustainability Prize is the UAE's award for organisations and schools solving sustainability problems, and its ceremony is the one evening of Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week that the public can attend. 12 January 2027, in the ICC Hall at ADNEC.

The categories

Health, Food, Energy, Water, Climate Action and Global High Schools, the last awarded to one school in each of six world regions. Eleven winners in all.

Open to the public

The organiser's programme marks the ceremony as open; registration is through the ADSW site. It is in the evening, after the Summit's first day, and the hall is the convention centre's largest.

What the prize is

A fund of several million dollars divided among the winners, who are small organisations and schools rather than companies; the previous winners' list is a reasonable map of who is doing useful work in off-grid energy, water and food in places the energy transition rarely mentions.

The ceremony is worth an evening for a reason the organiser does not say: the finalists are in the room, and most of them run small outfits in Africa and South Asia that a Gulf company looking for a credible sustainability partner will not find at a trade show. The finalists' booths on the exhibition floor are the easier place to talk to them, and they are there all week. Dress for a state occasion; the heads of state from the Summit attend.
