What we actually do about the environment
Most company pages under this heading are a stock photograph of a leaf and a paragraph about caring deeply. This one is a list of things that have either happened or are being worked on, with the ones that haven't happened yet labelled as such.
Conifer planting in the Urals
The part of this with the longest history: planting coniferous trees in the Urals. It grew out of the personal background of the people behind DST rather than a corporate initiative — which is also why it predates the company and isn't structured as a programme with a reporting cycle.
Conifers are the sensible choice for that region for reasons worth stating plainly: they're native to it, they survive the winters without intervention, and they hold soil on ground that would otherwise erode. A planting suited to its site needs no maintenance budget to stay alive — which is what separates reforestation that lasts from the kind that photographs well in year one and is gone by year five.
What's being worked on now
Yerevan
The intention is to take part in environmental work in Yerevan and — just as importantly — to document it properly, so there's a record rather than a claim. Nothing is finished here yet. When it is, this section will say what was done and when.
Dubai
Dubai is where DST operates day to day, and it's where we have the fewest environmental contacts. That's the honest state of it. We're looking for organisations, initiatives and people already doing credible environmental work in the UAE — not to sponsor a logo placement, but to find something worth actually taking part in.
If you run something along those lines, or know someone who does, the contact details are at the bottom of this page.
Why this sits on its own site
Environmental work kept as a tab on a commercial site tends to read as decoration for the commercial part. Its own domain lets it stay small and specific without having to justify itself against a sales page — and lets this page admit that two of the three things on it haven't happened yet, which a marketing page would never do.
DST's commercial work — real estate, company formation, and the rest — lives at dst.llc. It is deliberately not cross-sold from here.
Contact
Updates and photographs from the plantings go to Instagram, which is the most honest format for this: dated posts, in order, rather than a curated summary written after the fact.
For anything else — particularly environmental contacts in Dubai — reach us through dst.llc.
