The Gulf's sustainability calendar begins in Abu Dhabi in the second week of January, and has since 2008. Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week 2027 runs 10–14 January 2027 at ADNEC, hosted by Masdar.
The theme
Securing Systems. Sustaining Growth. The organiser's framing is that the energy, water and food systems the region depends on have to be made resilient while the economies around them keep growing, and that the two are one problem.
The pieces
The ADSW Summit, the heads-of-state and ministers' gathering, is on 12–13 January in Hall 11 and is invitation only; the Opening Ceremony is on the 12th. The IRENA Assembly, the annual meeting of the International Renewable Energy Agency's member states, is on 10–11 January. The Zayed Sustainability Prize awards ceremony is on 12 January and the World Future Energy Summit exhibition runs 12–14 January; both have their own pages here.
The size
The 2026 edition drew more than 60,000 attendees across the week, by the organiser's count.
What is open
The exhibition and most of the conference stages are open to anyone who registers; the Summit is not. A Dubai-based visitor can do the exhibition in a day, and the drive from Dubai to ADNEC is about an hour and a quarter outside the morning peak.
Treat the week as three events with one badge. The Summit is where the announcements are made and it is closed, so read it the next morning. The IRENA Assembly is where the policy is argued, and it is open to observers from accredited organisations, which many regional firms are without knowing it. The exhibition is the part a company actually uses. Book the hotel before December; Abu Dhabi fills for this week, and the Dubai commute on the E11 adds an hour each way to a day that starts at eight.
